A couple of months later, in January 1986, Q-Link had a bit over 10,000 members. It could handle only 247 connections simultaneously, a problem that was being worked on. Both Quantum and Commodore were disappointed. The last two arguments of the collision_rectangle function specify that we want precise collision detection (which we do because we re looking for solid landscape, and that includes ramps and slopes), and that we want it to ignore collisions with itself (in case you wanted to check if a platform was on top of a platform). If it finds a collision, then the function returns the id of one of the colliding instances (a value > 0) and if it doesn t, then it returns a negative value.
