The only issue that you have to take care of beforehand is to create an accepted domain record for every domain that you want to use in email addresses . For example, if you want to use contoso .com and contoso-europe .com, both must be known to Exchange as accepted domains before they can be used in email addresses . Figure 6-16 illustrates the options that exist to compose the format for the email addresses. These options are perfectly acceptable for addresses composed of English first and last names, but might struggle to cope with names from other languages. The non-English versions of Exchange offer other alternatives and you can also create a custom mask for the address using the variables described in Table 6-4. If you want to create a custom mask, you can do so through EMS by either specifying it when you create a new email address policy with the New-EmailAddressPolicy cmdlet or by updating an existing email address policy with the Set-EmailAddressPolicy cmdlet.

The EMS command to create the new email address policy that we have just gone through is shown next. The filter specifies that we want to apply the policy to any user who has a mailbox.
